  3. Update: Re-application of UN Security Council Resolutions related to Iran

Paris, 29 October 2025 - Pursuant to the process set forth in paragraphs 11 and 12 of United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution 2231 (2015), as of 8:00pm EDT on 27 September 2025, all of the provisions of resolutions 1696 (2006), 1737 (2006), 1747 (2007), 1803 (2008), 1835 (2008), and 1929 (2010) related to Iran have been re-applied in the same manner as they applied before the adoption of resolution 2231 (2015). Please see the United Nations website for further information.

This directly impacts the scope of FATF Recommendations. FATF Recommendation 7 is applicable to all current Security Council resolutions applying targeted financial sanctions relating to the prevention and disruption of the financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction – therefore the above listed resolutions are applicable under the FATF Standards and Methodology. Minor reference updates have been made to the Standards and Methodology to refer to the appropriate Security Council resolutions. Jurisdictions’ implementation of Recommendation 7 is being assessed as part of mutual evaluations.
