FATF Vice-President Giles Thomson

Giles Thomson was appointed by the FATF Plenary to replace the outgoing Vice-President, Jeremy Weil. Giles Thomson of the United Kingdom assumed his role as Vice-President of the FATF on July 1, 2025.

Giles Thomson serves as Director for Economic Crime and Sanctions in His Majesty's Treasury. He is responsible for the UK's AML/CTF policy and the Office for Financial Sanctions Implementation. 

Giles has been the UK's Head of Delegation to FATF since 2016, leading the UK's representation to FATF and the Global Network, as well as the UK's 2018 Mutual Evaluation. He served as co-chair of FATF's Global Network Coordination Group from 2021-2025.

Giles has spent over 20 years in the UK civil service, in a range of departments and roles, including leading a Cabinet Minister's office in HM Treasury and heading up the Foreign Office's South Asia Department. 

Prior to joining the civil service, Giles graduated from Oxford University with a Bachelor of Arts and Masters in International Relations.

 

Giles Thomson
