Paris, 30 October 2026 - Effective implementation of the FATF Standards in relation to virtual assets (VAs) and virtual asset service providers (VASPs) remains uneven across the global network and criminal networks continue to abuse virtual assets, exploiting both their cross-border nature and implementation gaps. The FATF calls on jurisdictions to urgently address remaining implementation gaps and deficiencies.

The FATF Global Network’s mutual evaluation and follow-up processes remain the primary mechanisms for assessing implementation and identifying recommended actions for jurisdictions. In addition, given the urgency of addressing risks in the VA/VASP sector, the FATF has decided to undertake a targeted review, primarily focused on jurisdictions with materially important VASP activity (MIVA), based on their current assessment status.

The FATF will follow up and work closely with relevant jurisdictions to support and accelerate implementation of the FATF Standards on VAs/VASPs, including through ongoing engagement, training, and capacity-building initiatives. The FATF encourages donors and technical assistance providers to prioritise support for jurisdictions facing significant R.15 implementation challenges. The targeted review, and the subsequent follow-up monitoring and accelerated reporting process are intended to reinforce accountability, enhance transparency, and drive timely action to help jurisdictions address identified deficiencies. Initial results from the targeted review will be published in June 2027, with further results to be published in October 2027.
